On the Backs of the Middle Class

The idea behind this painting was that a lot of the money that is made in this country, especially oil related money, is at the expense of the middle class. The rich often receive tax cuts for being wealthy, or making big campaign contributions, and the middle class feels the pinch of high gas prices. All the while, the gap between the rich and the poor keeps growing. The red elephant symbolizes the Republican Party, and the gas pump mirrors a gun being held to the head of the middle class worker, symbolizing the pressure they are under to support the country.
