This painting depicts a hand holding a gun, meant to be that of a soldier. Inside the smoke, the word "freedom" is repeated reflecting the irony that seems to be present in the idea that we send troops overseas to give other nations freedom, and in giving them freedom, thousands of innocent civilians end up dying. Whether it’s because our bombs miss their targets and hit market places, or wedding parties, or civilians get caught in crossfire, it seems odd that we kill the people that we claim we’re freeing.
