To be poor is to live in constant struggle
Remembering to take one day at a time
Seeking opportunity where most do not look
Finding innovative ways to stay alive
To be poor does not define one's self–esteem
Valuing one's self worth from inner strength
Finding comfort in deep spirituality and family
To be poor is to ignore our subconscious materialistic fiend
Working hard to meet our basic necessities
Never wanting more than what we need
To be poor is to learn to live without
Observing others walk among you in constant doubt
With churning stomachs due to financial drought
To be poor is to accept one's reality
Fighting for every inequality
Standing up for one's right to humanity
To be poor is to live in numbers
Stacked on top of one another
Caring for your sisters and brothers
To be poor is to motivate your community
To reveal the truth about our poverty
Truth is we are becoming the majority
