Dr. Eugenie C. Scott:"Conservative Christianity and Evolution"
February 1st at 7:30 p.m., Lounge, Brockway Hall, SUNY Corltand.
Scott is the author of Evolution and Creationism, and Executive Director of the National Center for Science Education. A leading critic of scientific creationism and intelligent design, Scott has appeared on a number of news programs including Fox and MSNBC. She was a consultant for the plaintiffs in the Dover, PA case involving the teaching of intelligent design in the public schools.
ATTENTION FACULTY/STAFF! Dr. Scott will be offering a workshop exclusively to SUNY Cortland faculty entitled: "Problem Concepts in Evolution," on Friday, February 2nd, at 9:00 am in Jacobus Lounge. Space is limited, so please RSVP to extension x 2088 or via email to gathaganl@cortland.edu

Edward Larson
April 9th at 7:30 p.m.,
Jacobus Lounge, Brockway Hall, SUNY Cortland.
Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and author, Larson has become a leading commentator on the Scope Monkey trial and the legal and cultural history of the creationism vs. evolution debate in America. Professor of History and Law at the University of Georgia, he appears frequently on C-Span, CNN, the History Channel. His many articles have appeared in Nature, Scientific American, The Nation, The Atlantic Monthly, and other leading magazines.
Russell Banks
April 24th at 7:30 p.m.,
Brown Auditorium, Old Main, SUNY Cortland.
Described as one of the most important living writers in America, prize-winning author Russell Banks has written a dozen novels and short story collections, many of which have been adapted into feature films. A national bestseller, his works include Cloudsplitter, Continental Drift, and The Sweet Hereafter. His next project, culminating in a new novel, engages the theme of fundamentalism.

Martin Marty
September 21st at 7:30pm.

Marty is a widely regarded commentator on religion and the public sphere. A National Book Award winner, Marty spent his career teaching at the University of Chicago Divinity School. The author of more than 20 books, he is a leading expert on fundamentalism, having directed the Fundamentalism Project, a comprehensive study of
world fundamentalisms.
Tariq Ali,
October 19, 7:30 p.m.
Brown Auditorium, Old Main, SUNY Cortland.
Ali, an editor at the New Left Review, is a prolific historian, novelist, filmmaker, and political commentator. His recent book, The Clash of Fundamentalisms, traces the origins of Islamic Fundamentalism and offers a challenging and controversial assessment of the 9/11 attack on the United States.
Jon M. Sweeny
November 9, 7:30p.m.
Jacobus Lounge, Brockway Hall, SUNY Cortland.
Sweeny, author of Born Again and Again, offers a compelling “insider’s look” at Christian Fundamentalism. Raised within a fundamentalism family, Sweeny describes what he calls its “gifts” as well as his own journey away from the faith of his childhood.
An associate publisher at Paraclete Press, his work has been a selection of the History Book Club and the Book-of-the-Month Club.
